5-year survival and prognostic factors for resectable colon cancer: a single institution experience in Lebanon by Ernest Diab in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

5-year survival and prognostic factors for resectable colon cancer: a single institution experience in Lebanon by Ernest Diab in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Background:  This study aims to analyze the 5-year overall survival (OS) and the progression-free survival (PFS) of patients with localized colon cancer (CC) and study the impact of various prognostic factors. It is the first study evaluating survival and prognostic factors for resectable CC in the region. Patients and methods:  The medical records of 79 patients at Hotel-Dieu de France (HDF) hospital were reviewed. OS and PFS were analyzed using the Kaplan–Meier method.  Results:  Advanced stages, advanced grades, and vascular invasion at the time of colectomy were correlated with lower 5-year OS and PFS, showing a statistically significant association. No significant association was observed between cancer sidedness and survival after colectomy. Conclusio...

Primary omental gangrene as a rare cause of a cute abdomen in children by Abdelaziz Yehya by Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Primary omental gangrene as a rare cause of a cute abdomen in children by Abdelaziz Yehya by Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Primary omental gangrene is a very rare cause of an acute abdomen. We came across a case of an acute abdomen which was taken up for Diagnostic laparoscopy. Intraoperative diagnosis of primary omental gangrene was made. Pre- operative diagnosis of this condition is difficult. Through our case report, we want to highlight about this rare cause of acute abdomen. Introduction Primary omental gangrene is a very rare cause of acute abdomen   [1].Primary omental gangrene is a condition in which a pedicle of the omental twisted on its longer axis to such an extent that its vascularity is compromised[2]. It occurs because a mobile, thick segment of omentum rotates around a proximal fixed point in the absence of any secondary intra-abdominal pathology [2,3]. Omental torsion can be primary (idiopathic) or seconda...

Outline of hospitalization due to venous thromboembolism in the state of bahia between 2010 and 2020 by Wagner Ramos Borges in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Outline of hospitalization due to venous thromboembolism in the state of bahia between 2010 and 2020 by Wagner Ramos Borges in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract An important pathology that affects the cardiovascular system is venous thromboembolism (VTE), a disease characterized by the formation of clots in veins. VTE is divided into two clinical presentations: pulmonary thromboembolism (PT) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The general objective of the present work is to describe the profile of patients hospitalized for venous thromboembolism and other venous diseases, in the state of Bahia between the years 2010 and 2020. The specific objectives are the following: describe the demographic characteristics of hospitalized patients; describe the epidemiological trend of venous thromboembolism over the period. Based on data extracted from the SUS Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS), it was possible to analyze the following variables: annua...

Resolution of QRS-fragmentation: A case report and review of literature by Zhong Yi, MD in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Resolution of QRS-fragmentation: A case report and review of literature by Zhong Yi, MD  in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Background:  It’s not clear whether the resolution of fQRS can be used to assess the effectiveness of cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) in patients of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Case presentation:  Here we report a 78-year-old male patient with HFrEF and refractory ventricular tachycardia (VT), who’s 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) showed fQRS in leads V1-V6 with QRS duration of 134 ms on admission. Even though the optimized medication of metoprolol, amiodarone, lidocaine, and berberine was given, the recurrent VT and HFrEF were still refractory. For further management, a CRT-D with multipoint pacing (MPP) function (St. Jude Medical, Sylmar, CA) was considered and implanted. It’s very encouraging that no more VTs and fQRS were recorded 9 hours after ...

Epsilon Wave in Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy by Luis López-Flores in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Epsilon Wave in Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy by Luis López-Flores in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Clinical Image A 54-year-old woman with hypertension presented to the emergency department after syncope occurred during prolonged standing. On arrival, heart rate and blood pressure were normal. Admission electrocardiogram (Figure 1, A) showed sinus rhythm at 55 bpm, PR 200 ms, a wide QRS complex with morphology of complete right bundle branch block (width 180 ms), with small electrical potentials immediately after the QRS in all leads, more variegated in right precordial leads – findings suggestive of epsilon wave-, and a negative T wave in all precordial leads. A subsequent electrocardiogram (Figure 1, B) also revealed ventricular extrasystoles of two morphologies, with criteria of epicardial origin, and in which the low amplitude component at the end of the QRS was also appreciated. Echocardiography showed severe biventricular systolic dysfunct...
