Fertility-sparing surgery for advanced serous primitive peritoneal borderline tumor. A safe and effective approach ? A case report and review of literature by Frédéric Goffin in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Fertility-sparing surgery for advanced serous primitive peritoneal borderline tumor. A safe and effective approach ? A case report and review of literature by Frédéric Goffin in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Borderline ovarian tumor (BOT) is a non-invasive neoplasm. Primitive peritoneal borderline tumor is histologically similar to non-invasive peritoneal implant of an ovarian serous borderline tumor. BOT carry out a favorable prognosis even at advanced stages. They are often diagnosed in women of childbearing age, so fertility is an important consideration in planning treatment. More welldesigned clinical trials are needed to determine the feasibility of fertility sparing surgery in treating advanced stage BOT according to the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) classification. We report a case from a 20 years old nulligravid woman treated with fertility conservation for a stage FIGO IIIA2 borderline serou...

Case Report: Ovarian Schistosomiasis in a Regional Australian Healthcare Setting by Dr Ayman Aboda in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Case Report: Ovarian Schistosomiasis in a Regional Australian Healthcare Setting by Dr Ayman Aboda   in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Schistosomiasis is a water-borne parasitic disease affecting millions worldwide, particularly in Africa and tropical regions of South America and Asia.  We present an unusual Schistosomiasis in the ovaries of a postmenopausal woman undergoing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for chronic severe pain associated with chronic endometriosis.  The woman had initially emigrated from the Philippines and lived in regional Australia.  The case highlights the peculiarities of health care in migrant Australians, often encumbered by the difficulties of living in remote and regional settings.  This case demonstrates the importance of comprehensive history-taking and multidisciplinary collaboration to effectively manage complex medical cases, where the past may be equally significant as the cu...

Sublingual Allergen Immunotherapy in a Child Sensitized to Pollens Responder and nonresponder in one – Case Report by Mikolajczyk Marek in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Sublingual Allergen Immunotherapy in a Child Sensitized to Pollens Responder and nonresponder in one – Case Report by Mikolajczyk Marek in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences  Abstract Keywords:  Sublingual allergen immunotherapy, children, pollens. Introduction Allergen immunotherapy is a well-established way of treatment in children with allergic rhinitis (AR). The therapy is the only method of changing the natural course of the disease and may prevent new sensitizations (1) (2).  Unfortunately, it is not possible to achieve this effect in all allergic patients. To implement the treatment, the following conditions have to occur:  no contraindications,  good cooperation with patient/parents,   correct diagnosis of AR, and access to a specific allergen for immunotherapy (3). Finding the specific allergen which causes allergic symptoms is not easy in some patients, moreover,  typical allergy tests, like speci...

Identification of a new mutation in kmt2c causing Kleefstra syndrome TYPE 2: A very rare disorder characterized by autism and development delay by Antonella Peduto in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Identification of a new mutation in kmt2c causing Kleefstra syndrome TYPE 2: A very rare disorder characterized by autism and development delay by Antonella Peduto in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract The prevalence of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) has risen over the last few decades from 2-4 in 10,000 to an estimate of 1 in 100. This is mostly due to changes in the broadening of investigation and diagnostic criteria. There are several rare monogenic diseases in which autism is a trait of neurodevelopment disorder, characterized by cognitive and motor disabilities, language impairment, in association with epilepsy, as well as other psychiatric disorders and distinctive physical features or multiorgan malformations. Some consider these disorders as “syndromic autism” and, among those, Kleefstra syndrome is a rare condition with a heterogenous clinical phenotype which includes autistic- like features. Kleefstra syndrome is caused by hap...

A Rare Presentation of Suspected Temporal Bone Arteriovenous Malformation in Pregnancy by Dr Ayman Aboda in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

A Rare Presentation of Suspected Temporal Bone Arteriovenous Malformation in Pregnancy by Dr Ayman Aboda in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are vascular anomalies that may lead to severe complications due to increased pressure and flow in venous structures.  While AVMs can manifest in diverse anatomical regions, a temporal bone AVM in pregnancy is rare.  This report presents the case of a 28-year-old woman diagnosed with a temporal bone AVM during her third trimester.  She was conservatively managed and experienced an uneventful delivery.  This case underscores the complexities in managing AVMs in pregnancy, particularly the delicate balance of weighing maternal and foetal risk.   Given the potentially catastrophic sequelae of AVM rupture during pregnancy, management must be carefully tailored, considering factors such as AVM location, size, the potential for haemorrhage...
